Hitting the Road

Yesterday was the first day I was able to ride my bike to work since the whole staph infection fiasco. It felt good, but I was a little nervous to see how comfortable it would be and if my legs had remembered how to ride. Well, it was as easy as riding a bike, because, well…I was riding a bike. What I was really going for was to be able to ride to work without breaking too much of a sweat and I did pretty good.
After work Matt, a buddy mine from the office, wanted to take me on a real ride. I agreed and he came back and met me at the office complete with his bike and full race gear. The picture is of the route that we took. Out through the park, up this long hill which I swear I was barely going 2 miles an hour up, and then back down, out through Friant, hooked a right to go up the hill on Willow and then back to the flats of the neighborhoods. It was over 19 miles and at one point I couldn’t feel my hands, feet, or… umm… the part that I sit on. Ouch.
It was a good challenge and I’m really glad I did it. Can’t wait to build up more endurance and some “climbing” muscles.
what the heck

I’m sitting here feeding my 6 month old and i put the normal 60z of water and formula in her bottle and she downed it like a 250 pound German at Octoberfest! She finishes off the bottle, spits the nipple out of her mouth and looks at me as if to say, “What the heck dad, get me some more!”
So, that’s what we’re doing.
iPhone apps…

I get made fun of all the time at work because of my iPhone. The guys think it’s funny that I have an app for this an app for that, one that makes fart noises and one that tracks my bicycle rides. The ones that really get me ridiculed are the ones that don’t do much of anything. Like the “Woooo!” button. That’s all it does. It screams, “Woooo!” So, when I was reading my Daily Dilbert and saw this one, I thought it was hilarious.

well, it’s official. I sold my car yesterday and I rode my bike to work today. We are officially a “one car” family. It’s already presented some different challenges, but nothing we couldn’t work out.
REI has this application for the iPhone that goes along with their “Bike Your Drive” promotion. It tracks, via GPS, my route to work, keeping my speed, time, distance, elevation changes, and average speed through a website called EveryTrail.com. It’s really cool and will calculate all my rides and keep them in a log for me. It’s gonna be pretty cool to see after a couple of months really how many miles I’m turning.
Just so you know, I’m not doing this because of some “green” campaign, although I love God’s creation. I’ve wanted to do it for a long time, but just needed the push. It’s cheaper, healthier, and it gets me outside which is a big change from sitting behind a 19″ monitor for 10+ hours a day. So far, it’s been great. I’ve ridden a handful of times and it’s actually very relaxing.
And…
•August 24, 2009 • 1 CommentI have the Associated Press’ iphone app on my phone, so whenever there is breaking news, it alerts me. This story just got posted about how some CIA operatives threatened the 9/11 suspects that they would harm their families in order to get info from them.
Maybe I’ve watched too many seasons of 24, but the fact that CIA opperatives would go to great lengths to protect the people of this country doesn’t surprise me at all. It works for Jack Bauer…
What a great day!
•August 22, 2009 • Leave a CommentToday was the kind of day I needed!
I started early, got to work around 6:30 and worked for a good 4 hours. At 10:30, I called it a day and drove with two other guys out to Dinuba’s new golf course, Ridge Creek. We did discuss business, but most of it was fun. Ate lunch at the clubhouse, got out onto the course (which was amazing) and had a great time. I shot a 103, but had one 10 and three 8’s, so if I can just get rid of those extreme outliers then I’ll be doing much better.
On the way home, Jacinda texted me that we were having pizza and to pick up a movie that she rented on RedBox. Hallelujah! That sounded perfect!
I got home late, ate some pizza and then we all plopped down on the couches and watched Bedtime Stories. The girls loved it! Now I actually had a little time and energy to get on the MacBook, so I thought I’d send out a quick blog. amazing…
