“The temptation of the age is to look good without being good.”
-Brennan Manning, The Ragamuffin Gospel
(Brennan passed away last Friday. His words have been a great inspiration to me and I constantly draw from their wisdom in my pursuit of Christ.)
I’m home sick today with my 9yr old and I just logged her absence with her school. You do it all online now. I’m sure all the Bueller’s of the world have figured this one out. Hopefully there’s not a lot of elementary kids ditching class though…

This isn’t new, but it’s still funny!
We have carpet.
I really don’t want our carpet. It’s white so it shows the stains, it’s ugly and it’s basically a mop that has collected germs and dirt over however many years it’s been in place.
Our first house was built in 1951, so when we bought it, we ripped out all of the carpet and there were beautiful wood floors that were underneath. I rented a sander, and voila, it looked amazing. This house we weren’t so fortunate. We have wood in our dining room, but the rest of the house is carpet and tile. We’ve looked into wood floors and even laminate flooring, but it would cost thousands and thousands. So, in the meantime, we’re left with these gross carpets. So, what’s the next best thing? Rip em out and use the concrete!
I’ve just started researching concrete floors and how to stain them, but it looks like a project we might actually take on! Do you have or have you ever painted/stained cement floors? I’d love to get some insight on the process.
